The glass on the front of a direct – vent fireplace does get very hot, in order that it can radiate a LOT of heat into your room. However, every fireplace has an almost-invisible safety screen that prevents your hand from actually touching the glass. It is carefully engineered to barely interfere with the glass’s ability to radiate heat.
